A 24-year-old man was being held on $50,000 bond Wednesday after he chased down and beat a miniature Dachshund, likely killing it, according to Sarasota County deputies (see video below).
In early August, Stacy Glover was asked by his in-laws to watch their dog at their home on Cutting Horse Trail.
When they returned, Glover told them the dog had run away.
But a home surveillance camera showed a different story, according to a sheriff's statement.
Deputies say Glover abused the dog, named Athena, and threw her out the back door. The dog tried to hide under some patio furniture and then ran off trying to escape.
According to the statement, Glover captured and beat the dog and is seen taking the dog back inside the home holding her by the throat.
He is later seen going back outside with the dog's lifeless body. He returned without the dog.
The dog's body was not found but a veterinarian reviewed the video and determined the abusive treatment would have caused serious if not fatal injuries.
Glover was arrested Wednesday morning and faces four felony charges including three counts of Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal and one count of Tampering with Evidence.
He was booked into the Sarasota County Jail.
