Child, 2, dies after being left in hot car in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. - A man was arrested and his 2-year-old daughter is dead after he left her in a hot car Sunday morning.

Uriel Hernandez, 23, is charged with felony aggravated manslaughter of a child after leaving his girl in a vehicle.

The child's mother told detectives Hernandez picked up the child at approximately 6 a.m. Sunday.  

Hernandez called the child's mother before noon to tell her the child was not responding.  The child's mother rushed to the house and called 911 on the way.

Detectives learned Hernandez arrived home with the child, went inside to get a phone charger and fell asleep.

The child had a body temperature of 106 when she arrived at the hospital around noon.  The temperature in the City of Sarasota was between 85 and 95 degrees at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
