Arrest made in Sarasota New Year's Day homicide

SARASOTA, Fla. - An arrest was made in the murder of a Sarasota man New Year's Day. Johnny Luna, 50, was found stabbed to death outside a home on 5th St. around 4:15 a.m. New Year's Day.

Sarasota police say Luna and several other people had gotten into an argument with Jorge Macias, 35. The people attending the party were laughing at Macias as his friends removed him from the party and that's when police say Macias stabbed Luna.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Macias' home and found kitchen knives matching the murder weapon. Police said he confessed to the crime during an interview.

Macias was booked into the Sarasota County Jail on one count of 2nd degree murder.
