Ryan Brown and his team of damage assessors walk the property line on Siesta Key. He said they are looking for wind damage, flooding, and debris. The crews will put all of their evaluations into a computer system that tracks the damage county-wide.

"This is an initial assessment, basically looking at the buildings and trying to get a visual of the amount of damage," said Brown.

The numbers they put together will determine if they'll get any state or federal funding. He believes most of the residents in Sarasota County dodged a bullet.

Several residents on Siesta Key agree with Brown.

"Certainly there is some water in some low lying areas that don't drain very well, but for the most part we are very fortunate," said resident Mike Cosentino.

County leaders still can't assess all of Hermine's damage, because some areas are still closed due to flooding.
