Resident battles homeowner association over gravel path

Michael Groves installed a gravel pathway outside his Manatee County home because he considers it safer for his 15-year-old son-in-law, who is autistic and has epileptic seizures. The path gives the teenager a better chance of avoiding a hard landing on concrete if he falls. But the Summerfield Riverwalk Village homeowner association says it violates the neighborhood's "cosmetic code," and is telling Groves the path must go.
