2 shot as gunman opens fire when group asked to leave Palmetto party

PALMETTO, Fla. - Two people have been released from a Manatee County hospital after being shot during an altercation in Palmetto.

According to Palmetto Police Deputy Chief Scott Tyler, a 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were shot when a group of people were asked to leave a party at a home in the in the 1400 blk of 14th St. W. around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

The people in the group that was asked to leave became angry, according to Tyler, and people began fighting.

A person who was asked to leave allegedly pulled out a handgun and began opening fire toward the home.

The victims were grazed. They were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, but are expected to be OK.

"Palmetto Police investigators have identified the suspect and are actively seeking him," Tyler said. "Detectives are not releasing his identity at this time."
