Suspect arrested in Lakewood Ranch murder, deputies searching for 17-year-old murder suspect

The last two weeks have been a nightmare for Michelle Cherp. Her son 23-year-old Alex Cherp, was murdered.

Alex was found shot in a parking lot in the quiet neighborhood of Lakewood Ranch. He later died in the hospital.

 

On Saturday morning, deputies arrested 19-year-old Jose Hernandez and charged him with armed robbery and murder.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is working to capture 17-year-old Alan Baily who is wanted on the same charges.

 
“I was so elated because I prayed to God and I know he answered my prayers," said Cherp.
 
Tears breaking through her forced smile as she remembers what else she’s lost along with her only child.
 
“I’m missing out on grandkids, I’m missing out on a wedding," she said.
 
His memory far from fading. Dozens of Alex's friends filling up Sarasota Pavilion with one of his greatest love. 
 
“He loved his car," said Michelle Cherp, "It was his pride and joy.”
 
From classy BMW's to modified metal beasts, friends and car enthusiasts revving up for Alex.
 
“We like him to live on through us and keep on doing what we are doing," said Ruzhdi Asani, a friend.
 
The family leaning on their beliefs through this difficult time
 
“God has a great angel up there right now and that gives me comfort," she said.
 
Despite the comfort a thirst for justice. Michelle has this message for Baily.
 
“We’re going to find you. You are going down buddy," she said.
 
Cherp pleading with the community. If you see Alan Baily call the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. There is a $8,000 reward up for grabs for information that leads to an arrest.
