Search for missing boy in water off Longboat Pass suspended for second night

LONGBOAT PASS, Fla. - The search for a 6-year-old boy who went missing while swimming in the water near Longboat Pass has been suspended for the second night, Bradenton Police say.

According to Longboat Key Fire Chief Paul Dezzi, Lamontea Taylor was swimming with family members and friends near the pass around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The area is reportedly known to have dangerous waters and has warning signs posted.

Dezzi says just as the swimmers started to reach the shore, the boy fell and was sucked under by the current. Family and friends tried to find the boy but had to call 911 to help.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched for several hours with multiple agencies yesterday but had to suspend the search around 10:40 Saturday night.

Longboat Key Marine units responded as well as West Manatee Fire Rescue and the sheriff's office.

A Jayhawk helicopter as well as 25-foot and 45-foot Response boats were launched to aid in the rescue.
