Manatee County sheriff's deputies said Kevin Potts robbed a Bradenton Wells Fargo bank Thursday and possibly ODed on drugs before he was taken into custody.

"He handed the teller a note basically stating this was a robbery," Manatee County sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said.

Potts fled with cash, but the bank's security cameras were able to capture his face, investigators said.

"We got those out right away and we got a name," said Bristow.

Deputies tracked Potts to a home in Palmetto, but when they arrived he seemed to be in poor health.

"It looks like he possibly overdosed on drugs," said Bristow.

Potts was rushed to a local hospital, treated, and then released. He now is the Manatee County Jail on a robbery charge. Investigators said the robbery is an example of how bad the drug crisis is getting in the region.

"This goes back to when we had the crack-cocaine epidemic we had people who were stealing, robbing, doing whatever to get their fix and that's what we have today," said Bristow.

Deputies responded to 276 overdose calls between January and March.
