Bradenton couple charged in large animal cruelty case

A Bradenton couple has been charged in a cruelty case involving the seizure of more than 300 animals, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Alan Napier, 51, Sheree Napier, 45, both face 15 counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
Alan Napier also faces one count of fraud.
Investigators had been considering filing charges against the Napiers since February, when authorities raided the nonprofit Napier’s Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary at 20010 State Road 64 E. in Bradenton. They took more than 300 dogs, cats, horses, pigs and other animals found in what investigators called extremely poor conditions.
"In my 33 years of law enforcement, this has to be the worst I've ever seen," sheriff's deputy Lorenzo Waiters said at the time.
Several local rescue groups said they had been complaining about the sanctuary for years.
