WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - UPDATE: David Archer turned himself in to police this evening in Bartow Florida.
Winter Haven police are searching for a man who allegedly beat his wife, kidnapped her, held her against her will and threatened to kill them both on New Year's Day.
The ordeal, which police area calling "horrific," stemmed over the course of four days.
According to officials David Archer became enraged at his wife on New Year's Eve for unknown reasons. He began to brutally beat his wife, at one point firing a gun at the wall.
Arhcer's wife was able to convince her husband to take her to the hospital during the beating due to significant injuries she had suffered during the attack.
He agreed and started to drive his wife to the hospital, but then detoured and drove them through the New Year to the Orlando area where he threatened to kill them both.
Eventually, Archer started to drive back to Winter Haven, but not before stopping along side the highway near a lake where he threatened to drown himself. Police say Archer's wife pleaded with her husband to continue to take her to the hospital.
Archer finally took the victim to a hospital, but told her that if she didn't lie about her injuries he would cause her more pain in the future. She proceeded to lie to medical personnel and law enforcement claiming that she had gotten into a fight with two other women.
After she was released from the hospital Archer took her to a hotel located on Highway 27 where he held her against her will for two days.
Friday, the victim was finally returned to her home where she was able to call family for help. They then called 9-1-1 to report what had happened to her. She was taken back the the hospital and received further medical care.
Archer is wanted on charges of kidnapping, domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated assault, and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
Police believe he is on a blue 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 with license plate of 98676N. He is around five feet, seven inches tall and weighs 160 pounds.
