A 43-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a homeless Winter Haven man.
DeMarco Ginn of Winter Haven is accused of killing James Stewart, whose body was found March 1 in Inman Park, according to Winter Haven Police Department.
Officers linked Ginn to the murder after finding blood on a pair of jeans he owned, police said. The blood matched that of Stewart, who had been stabbed in the head and neck multiple times.
The day before his murder, Stewart had purchased a bicycle in the park where friends would find his body, police said. After Stewart was found, witnesses told police they saw Ginn trying to sell the bicycle.
Ginn initially denied any involvement until investigators confronted him with the DNA evidence, police said. He eventually confessed to being in the park when Stewart bought the bicycle. Police said he told investigators Stewart was involved in an altercation that ended in the stabbing.
Ginn also faces a robbery charge.
