Polk County deputies searching for dangerous man charged with attempted murder, armed robbery

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Polk County Sheriff deputies are on the hunt for a wanted man who allegedly shot a woman early Saturday morning.

Brandon Matthews, 29, had several warrants out for his arrest for an Aug. 14 armed robbery and attempted murder in Winter Haven.

Around 4:45 a.m. Matthews was involved in an argument at a house located in the 1100 block of 38th Street Northwest in Winter Haven.

The argument escalated and Matthews fired several rounds. Stray bullets went into the house where Jessica Green was standing.

Sheriff's Deputies say she was shot twice. One bullet hit her in the right arm. The other bullet hit her in the stomach. She is in the hospital with life threatening injuries. Neighbor Cindy Rios woke up because of the gunfire. "Just Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam. I thought it was fireworks. Fire crackers. I laid there about 20 minutes. I finally got up and I walked outside. They were putting her in an ambulance."

Matthews should be considered armed and dangerous. He is 5'7'' and weighs around 164 pounds.
