A 2-year-old boy was killed Monday while riding a tricycle in a Polk County trailer park, according to the Bartow Police Department.
Alex Menendez was struck about 6 p.m. by a vehicle backing from a driveway two doors down from his parents' home in a trailer park at 1510 E. George St. in Bartow, according to police.
Police identified the driver as Lorenzo Jimenez-Guillen, 53, a resident of the trailer park.
"The driver of the vehicle backing out of his driveway did not see the child, and they collided," said Deputy Chief David Wyant.
An officer attempted to give Menendez first aid, but the child died at the scene.
Police believe a speed bump caused the toddler to fall down in Jimenez-Guillen's driveway. Menendez's mother was watching from a nearby porch, according to police.
The driver is fully cooperating with the investigation. At this time, there are no indications he was impaired.
Police said criminal charges are not expected.
