Teen flees from scene of overturned truck on Lake Mabel Loop Road

DUNDEE, Fla. - A teen was later arrested after be left the scene of a crash Saturday night.

According to Polk Sheriff's deputies 18-year-old Michael Williamson was driving down Lake Mabel Loop Road in Dundee when he failed to handle a curve in the roadway.

He was able to get the truck back on the road, but over corrected causing the truck to hit a utility pole and flip upside down.

Other drivers who witnessed the crash stopped to help and saw Williamson attempting to pull the passenger, 19-year-old William Ober III, from the truck.

He later fled from the scene into the nearby orange groves.

Ober was flown to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Deputies were able to trace Williamson back to his house. He was taken to the hospital for medical attention to injuries he sustained during the crash and later booked into Polk County Jail.

He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

Detectives think speed and possible impairment may have been a factor in the crash. They are awaiting the results of a toxicology test.
