POLK - Polk County Fire Rescue will take to the streets the first three Fridays in April to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through their signature "Fill the Boot" drive.
For more than half a century, the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) members have worked with the MDA to help those affected by neuromuscular diseases.
The money raised in Polk County will stay in the county to help fund program services, including free clinic visits; assistance with the purchase and repairs of wheelchairs, leg braces and communication devices; physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy consultations; support groups and summer camp for children. The money raised also helps fund several ongoing research projects in search of better treatments and a cure.
This will be a community-wide effort, so Polk County Fire Rescue is asking everyone in Polk County to help "Fill the Boot" and please be on high alert Friday April 5, 12 and 19 at the following intersections:
Old 37 and Main Street, Bradley Junction
Hwy 27 and Alturas Babson Park Cutoff Road, Lake Wales
Hwy 92 and Combee Road, Lakeland
Cypress Gardens Blvd and Cypress Gardens Road, Winter Haven
Hwy 98 And Clubhouse Road, Highland City
Hwy 60 and Buckmoore Road, Golfview
Hwy 17 and Snively Avenue, Winter Haven
S. Florida Avenue and Pipkin Road, Lakeland
SR 559 and I-4, Polk City
Hwy 98 and Marcum Road, Lakeland
Hwy 27 and I-4, Davenport
Bailey Road and Shepherd Road, Willow Oak
Hwy 27 and Hwy 544, Lake Hamilton
