AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Polk County Sheriff's deputies are searching for an attempted murder and kidnapping suspect.
Deputies say Randall Scott Miller, 44, shot his girlfriend Micki Pickren, 52, three times in the head Tuesday night. Pickren was shot once in the back of the head, once in the side of the head and once in the face. Pickren survived her injuries and is recovering at a local hospital, according to deputies.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. in area of Lake Van Road and CCR 559 in Auburndale.
"I heard pop, pop, pop," said a male neighbor who asked not to be identified. "It was a .22. I thought it was someone shooting squirrels."
Pickren's family told ABC Action News the shooting occurred in an orange grove inside of Miller's white pickup truck.
The family said the couple have been dating for two years and have a history of domestic violence.
Pickren remains in the ICU at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. One bullet is lodged in her head and will not be removed and another bullet fractured her jaw, according to family members.
Miller is described as a white male, 5'11'' tall, 200 lbs., with brown haircut in a crew cut, blue eyes, a Marine Corps tattoo on his left arm and a scar over his left eye.
Miller's last known address is 563 Cone Road #1 in Auburndale.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
He may be driving a white 1998 Chevy pickup truck with Florida tag K29 7TL.
Miller has been arrested previously for battery, battery domestic violence and child abuse.
