Three teens have been charged with stealing a school bus and taking it on a 180 mile joyride across Polk County.
According to investigators, the teens took a 2012 bus that belongs to the Lake Wales Charter Schools over the Labor Day weekend and then returned it.
A routine inspection of the bus on September 2 revealed missing fuel and an extra 180 miles as compared to the last report by the assigned driver.
An investigation determined the bus was taken by the teens between August 31 at 10:30pm and September 1 at 4:30am.
Lake Wales Police said the three teenagers found the bus unsecured and they located the keys inside the bus.
The teens took the bus to different locations which included Lake Wales, Frostproof, Winter Haven, and Waverly, according to police.
Investigators said during that joyride, they also picked up three other teens.
The teen have been charged with grand theft auto and trespassing on school property. The three teenagers who were picked up during the joyride are being charged with trespassing on school property.
The bus, which is valued at over $53,000 was returned with no reported damage.
