Three arrested, charged in Lakeland birthday party shooting

2 bonded out, 1 waiting for first appearance

LAKELAND - Three men have been arrested and charged in a weekend shooting at a birthday party.

Three people, including a pregnant woman and a grandmother are still recovering after being shot when Lakeland Police say a car drove by a party at 1514 Fairbanks Street in Lakeland on Saturday.

Police say both Martavious Knight, 20, and Darmas Harper, 21, have been released on $1,000 bond, while Maurice Knight, 19, is still in the Central County Jail awaiting his first appearance in front of a judge scheduled for Monday afternoon.  Maurice Knight was recently arrested in late March for aggravated battery.

Witnesses on scene at the party say its amazing the aftermath wasn't much worse.

Quinmesha Davis, 19, says she was celebrating her birthday party on the street when a vehicle drove by several times and someone inside fired shots.

Around 100 people were at the street party, according to Davis.

Lakeland Police say several people in the crowd were armed and actually shot back at the car.

Authorities say Sharon Bailey, 29, Sharon Grant, 59, and DeAndre Lamar, 18, were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening gun shot wounds.

Police say they found the car they believed to be involved in the shooting just around the corner from the house with shell casings inside, but no gun.  All three men denied pulling the trigger at the party.

While party goers say they think this shooting was gang-related, Lakeland Police would not comment.
