LAKELAND, Fla. -
In a hand-delivered letter to Lakeland City Manager Doug Thomas, Polk County State Attorney Jerry Hill raked Lakeland Police Chief Lisa Womack over the coals on Friday.
The Lakeland Police Department has been under intense scrutiny following a sex scandal involving police officers, some of them high-ranking. Another high-profile incident involved an officer having a woman shake out her bra after being pulled over for a broken headlight.
Another blow, possibly the biggest, came on Thursday when Lakeland police officer Julio Pagan was arrested and charged with Armed Sexual Battery and Armed Aggravated Stalking.
Chief Womack said Thursday, she was not made aware of the Pagan case until Sept 19. The police department is now investigating why a call to 911 was not properly reported. As part of that investigation, one employee from the communications center is now on paid leave.
