Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency is trying to toss out crime, while offering new home buyers low prices.

The Lincoln Square Housing Project began back in 2011 when the CRA demolished crime-ridden apartments along Lincoln Avenue in Lakeland.

Coming this July, construction will begin on 21 family-style homes starting at $119,000.

The CRA already has 200 or more applicants including one Lakeland mother who says it's the perfect opportunity for her and her family.

"It would really be a convenient neighborhood for us," Jennifer Sabin says her children go to school right next door to the property. Not only that, but the price is mighty enticing. "We can live here for less than two-thirds of what we are paying in rent and we own the place," Sabin said.

An added bonus for moving into the area is money-down incentive for buyers. Accepted buyers will be offered 20 percent down for a home at Lincoln Square.

"The CRA is offering down payment assistance which puts us much closer to the $100,000 range, so that is truly affordable housing." Sabin added.

And the excitement isn't just kept for the home buyers either. Nicole Travis with Lakeland's Community Redevelopment Agency says she's happy to be able to offer low prices to hard-working residents in the area.

The offer is not income restricted. But does require owners to live in the home for at least ten years.
