HAINES CITY, Fla. - An out-of-state police officer is charged with sexual battery on a child while on vacation in Haines City last summer, according to a statement.
Haines City detectives flew to Andover, Massachusetts on Thursday and with the assistance of the Andover and Lawrence police departments, arrested Officer Carlos Gonzalez, 48.
The investigation began after the Lawrence Police Department received a complaint that a juvenile had been battered. According to the statement, the assault occurred when Gonzalez was vacationing in Haines City on July 22, 2012.
He is charged with sexual battery on a juvenile between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age and giving alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
Gonzalez, a Lawrence officer since 1988, was held without bail in Lawrence where he was scheduled for arraignment.
