Gov. Rick Scott announces new money to keep MLB spring training here in Florida

LAKELAND, Fla. - Governor Rick Scott stopped by the Detroit Tigers spring training facility in Lakeland to announce a new initiative to keep the MLB's teams that train here in Florida.

$5 million would be used toward spring training facilities to keep Florida number one with MLB teams spring training within state borders.

Scott said the economic benefits the teams provide can't be underestimated.

ABC Action News also had a chance to ask the governor about election season 2014.

Florida Commissioner on Agriculture Adam Putnam in a release that recently went out, criticized the governors position on Medicaid.

"Well the law passed, the Supreme Court had a decision, we had a presidential election last year. We don't have the choice if this is going to be the law of the land, it's the law of the land," Scott said.

Putnam is often considered by political pundits to be a surrogate Republican gubernatorial candidate, as many have noted Scott's low approval ratings in polls.
