Body of dog tied to cinder block found in Winter Haven canal

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Police are asking for the public's help in finding the person who tied a Dachshund to a cinder block and threw it into a Winter Haven canal.

The male dog's body was found just below the surface by two fisherman around 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

The canal connects lakes May and Shipp.

A nylon  rope was tied around the dog's neck and half cinder block visible from the side of the canal.

The fishermen. 51-year-old Donald Hill and 67-year-old Charles Weeks, both of Lakeland, called police.

The dog, which had not been neutered and did not have a microchip, was all black except for a light brown muzzle and light brown paws.
