POLK COUNTY, Fla. - Polk County Sheriff deputies are reporting the second case of rabies in the county for 2014.
A bat was found inside a family's home on Clinton Street in Bartow on May 7. Polk County Animal Services responded to the home and took the bat to be tested for rabies.
Two days later the state lab confirmed the bat had rabies.
Polk County warns people to that bats and raccoons are among "high risk" mammals that often contract rabies. If an animal is seen acting strangely call Animal Control at 863-499-2600.
