William F. McGall, 23, was arrested after admitting to dropping 6-month-old baby boy, then him the back of the head, leaving the infant in serious condition.
BARTOW - A 23-year-old Bartow man is behind bars after admitting he caused several skull fractures to a 6-month-old infant.
On July 2, detectives began to investigate a case of possible child abuse that occurred at a home shared by William McGall, his girlfriend and her 6-month-old baby boy.
At that time, officials learned the baby had been transferred from Bartow Regional Medical Center to All Children's Hospital due to skull injuries.
Officials interviewed the mother and her live-in boyfriend, but the information obtained didn't explain how the baby sustained those injuries.
On July 3, detectives decided to conduct another interview with both adults, and it was then that McGall admitted to accidently dropping the baby on his head.
He told detectives that after the drop, the child wouldn't stop crying, so in anger and frustration, he hit the baby in the back of his head with a "palm heel" style strike.
McGall was arrested and taken to the Polk County ail.
The baby remains at the hospital and is listed in serious condition.
