EAGLE LAKE, Fla. -
100-year home up in flames; 3 families out
A 3,000 square foot home built in the early 1900s caught fire Thursday evening in Eagle Lake, sending three families to find a place to stay.
Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded to the two-story house on Old Eagle Lake/Winter Haven Road after getting a call around 4:00 p.m.
When they arrived, the entire front of the house was engulfed in flames. The wood frame house suffered extensive heat, smoke and water damage.
Nearly 30 personnel from Polk County Fire Rescue and Winter Haven Fire Department responded to the fire.
The Florida State Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
The American Red Cross is helping the families with a place to stay.
