2nd grade Polk County school teacher, Amy Alvarado, arrested for residential burglary

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - A second grade school teacher from Winter Haven, along with her boyfriend, is charged with burglary and dealing in stolen property, according to a sheriff's statement.

42-year-old Amy Alvarado, who teaches second grade at Eastside Elementary in Haines City and 30-year-old Brian Fideau drove to a home on Troon Court SE on Tuesday and stole a golf bag filled with clubs valued at over $2,500 from an open garage, deputies said.

The crime was witnessed by a neighbor who called authorities.

Later in the day, Alvarado was pulled over and detectives who were working the residential burglary responded.

After questioning,  Alvarado admitted to stealing the clubs, according to the statement.  She said she and Fideau went to several pawn shops in an attempt to sell them, and eventually went to Play It Again Sports in Winter Haven and sold them for $180.00, Fideau denied involvement in the crime.

The clubs were located by deputies at Play It Again Sports.

Alvarado was arrested and charged with Burglary To A Dwelling, Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property and False Verification to a Pawn Broker. Fideau was also charged.

Alvarado's adult son, who is on probation, was in the car during the theft and was also arrested along with another passenger..

"She should have known and followed 'The Golden Rule.'  She didn't, so now she may be eating pressed turkey in the Polk County Jail for Thanksgiving," Sheriff Grady Judd wrote in the statement.
