Pinellas County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating a shooting that injured an Uber driver Tuesday morning.

Detectives assigned to the Robbery & Homicide Unit said they found a damaged 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in the construction area near the intersection of Ulmerton Road and 40th Street North in unincorporated Clearwater. When they stopped to check it out they found 33-year-old Terence Baxter unresponsive in the front driver seat.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Baxter to Bayfront Medical Center hospital for a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Baxter later informed deputies that he had been "jumped."

Detectives confirm Baxter is employed as an Uber driver and he was on duty at the time of the incident.

At this time, detectives have no information that lead to a suspect.
