Tampa Bay Rays pitchers and catchers reported to camp for the first time on Thursday. Pitchers David Price, Alex Cobb, Matt Moore and others hit the diamond for the first time this spring as an entire staff.
It was a mixture off old and new faces for the Rays. New relief pitchers Grant Balfour and Heath Bell took the field for the first time this spring in Rays gear. This is Balfour's second stint with Tampa Bay after leaving in 2010 for Oakland.
Balfour and the rest of the pitching staff will have to get used to throwing to a new catcher in Ryan Hanigan. The Rays acquired Hanigan from Cincinnati along with Bell in December and should provide the Rays' defense with an upgrade behind the plate.
Saturday morning will be the first mandatory pitchers and catchers workout in Port Charlotte.
Position players report Wednesday and the first full-squad workout will be held Thursday.
