Florida Fish and Wildlife is investigating a fatal boat crash in St. Petersburg’s Bayboro Harbor.

Philip C. Stock of St. Petersburg, who turned 38 on Thursday, died as a results of the crash, according to law enforcement. Matthew P. Mann, 40, also of St. Petersburg, and Chad E. Angell, 58, of Odessa, were injured.

Two other boaters, James P. Garvey of Lutz, 54, and Lara M. Sieder, 44, of Tampa were uninjured.

The FWC initially reported that alcohol was involved in the crash, but now says it’s unknown whether it was a factor.

The water rescue at 600 8th Avenue Southeast began about 9:44 p.m.

When fire units arrived on scene they found that two private boats had collided in the Bayboro Marina.

Witnesses described the water conditions as rough Friday evening.  Tom Distefano watched the water rescue.

"It's sad especially when it's preventable with proper lights and Coast Guard courses," said Distefano.
