A large and diversified crowd gathered at St. Petersburg City Hall on Thursday to watch Mayor Rick Kriseman raise the Pride Flag.
It helps mark the beginning of the city's annual Pride Festival.
"We pride ourselves on being a city of inclusion and diversity. This is reflective of that," Kriseman said.
The flag will fly during the weekend long celebration.
This year, the city will also make history. Kriseman will march in the parade on Saturday. It’s the first time ever for a St. Petersburg mayor.
The parade will roll out at sunset.
An estimated 120,000 people are expected to attend, which makes it the large LGBT Pride Parade in Florida and largest overall in St Petersburg.
