Search and rescue efforts for a man who went missing from his boat Sunday afternoon resumed Monday morning.  Pinellas County investigators say 49 year-old Michael Rhine of Pinellas Park disappeared in the waters near Fort Desoto Park.

Deputies say he was working on his engine at Bunces Pass, fell off of his 24-foot boat and never resurfaced. Rescue crews searched from just before 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in an attempt to find him.

John Scribner has been boating since he was a child, and was fishing Sunday with family and friends. He says Bunces Pass can be treacherous, even for experienced boaters.

"It's pretty bad because it gets real shallow and it's a pretty narrow little cut. You know if you go the long way like we did, it's pretty typical because you have a lot more depth in the channel. But, that shallow pass there, it's just bad," Scribner said.

Officials say the man was wearing red shorts with no shirt or life jacket. Scribner says it's important to take precautions when you're out on the water.

"Big thing is just having a horn, sounding horn, current flares that are actually up to date so you know they work. Life jackets for everybody on the boat and if you have kids, life jackets that fit," Scribner says.
