Pinellas Sheriff and Clearwater PD launch sting to catch people seeking sex from minors

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and Clearwater Police joined forces to track down people seeking sex with minors.
In a four day operation called "Operation Guardian," undercover officers arrested 18 men from across the Bay area.
During a Monday news conference, Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said all of the men used the internet to arrange sex with minors, but were actually corresponding with undercover officers.
Of the 18 men arrested, Gualtieri said 14 were seeking to have sex with a 14-year-old girl, two were seeking sex with a 15-year-old girl and two others were seeking sex with 13 and 12-year-olds.
All of the men are charged with second degree felonies for traveling to have sex with minors.
Gualtieri said after one of the men was released from jail, he was arrested a short time later for seeking sex again with a minor.  He had contacted another undercover officer.
"This sadly occurs every day on the internet," Gualtieri said.
