Pinellas man beaten with dog chain by suspect riding scooter, detectives ask for public's help

LEALMAN, Fla. - Pinellas detectives say a man walking down a sidewalk in Lealman was attacked by a another man wielding a dog chain after stepping off a scooter. Investigators believe the two didn't know each other and the S.O. is asking for help.

The victim was walking from a bus ride west on 58th Avenue North around 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday when the suspect, riding a small scooter, approached him from behind. The two exchanged words and the suspect began to beat him.

The attack was captured on surveillance video.

Detectives say the suspect continued to beat the victim after he fell on the ground.


The suspect got back on the scooter and went to nearby Avery Mobile Home Park and left the scooter underneath a mobile home on Lot 98.

The victim suffered facial fractures and other injuries to the back of his head and ear.

It was unclear what the two were arguing about. But detectives have determined they did not know each other.

Because the suspect is still on the loose, the victim's name is not being released.

The suspect is described as being possibly Hispanic or Asian male, 25-30 years of age, 5'8- 6′ tall, about 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white short sleeve shirt, gray shorts, a white ball cap. He was riding a black Rider scooter.
