Pinellas Co. K-9 unit welcomes first female deputy in 35 years

Pinellas County Sheriff's K-9 unit recently welcomed their first female deputy in 35 years.

On May 30, PSCO welcomed three new K-9s and partners to the K-9 Unit, as the celebrated their graduation from Basic Patrol K-9 Operations school. Among the three graduates was Deputy Kayla Juliet and her newly partnered K-9 Jace.

Deputy Juliet is the first female K-9 deputy in 35 years and the only the second female K-9 deputy in Pinellas County Sheriff's Office history.

The recent graduates spent their five months training the K-9's learn obedience commands, bite work, search work to include area and building searches, tracking and human odor response.

Deputy Juliet will now be hitting the streets on all fours with her partner.
