Man arrested after deputy witnesses him cause head-on collision

UNINCORPORATED CLEARWATER, Fla. - Pinellas County Sheriff deputies arrested a man after he caused a head on collision and watched him run from the scene.

Matthew Bunch, 21, was witnessed driving recklessly by a deputy who was on patrol in the area of Overbrook Avenue and Douglas Avenue in unincorporated Clearwater late Friday night.

As deputy Guzman attempted to pull Bunch over he made a right turn onto Douglas Avenue into oncoming traffic. Shortly after making the turn Bunch collided head on into on oncoming Chevy pickup truck.

After the collision both Bunch and the passenger in his car fled from the scene. Deputy Guzman chased after the two on foot nabbing Bunch.

The passenger was able to get away.

Out of the four people who were in the pickup, two teens suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Bunch was taken to the hospital for treatment of some injuries and was later taken to Pinellas County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, trafficking hydromorphone and resisting arrest without violence.

Deputies are still looking to identify the passenger who was with Bunch.
