Live power line traps passenger in car after hitting pole

UPDATED STORY:

Fire rescue was able to safely remove the woman passenger and she was transported to be treated for minor injuries.

The driver ,James Algeo, 35, of St . Petersburg, was not injured. Charges are pending.

Northbound MLK St lanes are now open. Southbound lanes will remain closed while power crews work on the downed power pole.
 

ORIGIANL STORY:

St. Petersburg officers are on scene of an accident at 40th Ave. South and MLK St. 

A car hit a power pole and flipped, causing a live power line to drop in the road. A palm tree then caught on fire.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle, but a passenger is still stuck inside due to the power line, according to officers.

Officers are waiting for the power company to turn off the electricity to the wire.

In the meantime, MLK St. is closed to traffic in both directions from 38 Av S - 42 Av S., also 40th Ave is closed.
