More than 20,000 people were expected to gather along Spring Bayou to watch the Epiphany celebration in Tarpon Springs.

Fifty-two young men between the ages of 16 and 18 dove into the chilly waters just before 1 p.m. in an attempt to retrieve a wooden cross cast by the archbishop.

Anderson Combs, 17, from Hudson High quickly grabbed the crossed and emerged from the waters.  This is his second year diving for the cross.   Moments after getting out of the water, he was carried down the street by other teens in celebration.

Last year Kosta Pseftelis, then an 18-year-old St. Petersburg College freshman, retrieved the cross within seconds and, according to tradition, received a year of good luck.
