A suspected DUI driver allegedly hit and killed a bicyclist on the Howard Frankland bridge, and FHP said he drove off after the Wednesday evening crash.

Troopers caught up to William Matthews, 67, of Harbor Island, on Ulmerton Road and arrested him on charges including DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Authorities identified the victim as 44-year-old John Brennan of Sayerville, New Jersey. He died at the scene.

An FHP report said the bicyclist was in the shoulder and Matthews' vehicle went into the shoulder and hit the victim from behind.

Matthews was in Pinellas County jail as of early Thursday morning, but had yet to be officially booked.
