Bride and groom to break world record in Tampa Bay

Most bridesmaids to one bride

SAFETY HARBOR, FL - Tina Ackles ended up with 168 bridesmaids on her wedding day. The Safety Harbor Mayor served as her witness. She is sending the evidence to Guinness Book of World Records for review.

ORIGINAL STORY: A couple is attempting to break a world record in Tampa Bay this weekend.

It’s a wedding party so large you don’t have enough room for guests.

Right now a couple from the United Kingdom holds the record with 130 bridesmaids.

The bride and groom here hope to double it to send a bigger message.

“I decided when you are having a wedding, you can't cut out any of your sisters,” said Tina Ackles.

So Ackles invited all of them to be her bridesmaids.

“It's going to be a madhouse, because there is going to be 220 women,” said Ackles.

Like any good groom, her fiancé Thomas Rodgers letting his soon-to-be-wife have her day.

“This is her day and all the other ladies,” said Rodgers.

Ackles and Rodgers met at the army base in Fort Hood, Texas right before they were deployed to Iraq in 2003.

“He filled my sandbags for me and sandbagged my tent for me which is love,” said Ackles.

Now seven tours combined and 12 years later, they are finally getting hitched at a destination wedding in Safety Harbor.

You may be thinking, how do you end up with all those bridesmaids?

“We have people from Texas, Oklahoma, California, Arizona,” said Ackles.

All of the ladies are a part of The American Business Women’s Association, a leadership group having their annual conference at the resort. The timing planned to celebrate Ackles’ two loves.

“Everyone is celebrating the association, the love we have for that, and the love we have for each other,” said Ackles.

The wedding colors are the same as the association.

“We decided the girls are going to wear black dresses, the style of their choosing with red accessories and red shoes,” said Ackles.

The women are ages 18 to 80.

Ackles hopes if they break the record for the most number of bridesmaids, they can spread their organizations message further.

“To grow their leadership skills, to give them more confidence, make them better speakers, better leaders,” said Ackles.

And like any ole Texan would say “Go big or go home. So here we are. We're going big,” said Ackles and Rodgers.

The couple is set to get married Saturday at Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.

They will record the wedding on video with two outside witnesses before submitting it to the Guinness Book of World Records for review.
