Police pursuit and capture closes I-75 southbound

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. - A Ruskin man wanted for domestic violence led officials on a two-county chase early Monday morning.  I-75 was closed in Pasco County as the SWAT team closed in.

Matthew Ryan Trevino, 28, was arrested on Interstate 75 near Wesley Chapel, after he fled Hillsborough County.

It started just before midnight Sunday, when dispatchers got a call about a reckless driver northbound on I-75 from Adamo Drive.  The caller advised that a Dodge Ram had struck his vehicle and fled northbound on the interstate.

When deputies arrived, they realized that the suspect driver was wanted for domestic violence and fleeing to elude charges from an earlier incident.

Deputies followed the vehicle until it entered Pasco County, and aviation continued to monitor the vehicle.  Pasco County units responded to attempt to contact the suspect.

The suspect continued northbound through Pasco County, turned southbound at State Road 52 and then exited I-75 at State Road 54.

Pasco deputies were communicating with the suspect, but the suspect would not exit his vehicle and stated that he was armed.

At that time, Pasco County Sheriff's Office SWAT team arrived on scene and the suspect started his vehicle and drove away, striking stop sticks with his right, front tire.

The suspect continued southbound on I-75 and stopped just north of State Road 56 where he was taken into custody with the assistance of PCSO SWAT.

The suspect was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel for a scrape he received on his head during the arrest.

After release from the hospital, he will be taken to the Pasco County Jail.

At this time Trevino faces one count of Battery Domestic Violence and two counts of Fleeing to Elude, with more charges forthcoming.
