Brief, weak funnel cloud drifts over Wesley Chapel

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. - A "very weak" and "brief" funnel cloud drifted over Wesley Chapel around 5 p.m. on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Ruskin.

Witness Geoff Rocque captured video of the slowly rotating cloud around 5:50 p.m. at Arrowgrass Drive in Wesley Chapel.

Lily Janes tweeted @ABCActionNews that the funnel cloud was "making its way up I-75 at SR 54" and "we started driving a little faster" because of it.

NWS Meteorologist Todd Barron confirmed the funnel cloud after ABC Action News sent Rocque's video for review.

"Looking at two different radars, there was some very weak and broad rotation, but not enough to warrant a tornado warning," he said.

Barron said a tornado warning was not issued because the funnel cloud was not dangerous.

"For a more technical description," Barron added, "it looks like the leading edge of this storm had a shear axis in which the front of the cell is moving at angle the rest of the storm -- which produced a brief funnel."

No touch down or wind damage has been reported with the funnel cloud.
