School nurse assistant accused of stealing pills from students and replacing them with unknown pills

WESLEY CHAPEL - The Pasco County Sheriff's office has arrested a nurse's clinic assistant from New River Elementary School in Wesley Chapel.

According to deputies, Kimberly Dawn Smith, 39, is accused of taking medications which were supposed to be dispensed to children at the school and replacing them with unknown pills.

Deputies arrested Smith Friday at her Dade City home.

According to the arrest affidavit, Smith took approximately 25 pills.

School leaders questioned Smith after a parent noticed their child's pill count was off. Leaders say when confronted, Smith admitted to taking the pills.

The arrest affidavit also states Smith admitted using the pills she took.

Deputies searched Smith's home on Friday and did not find any pills. 

Right now, it is not known what Smith replaced the student's pills with.  She faces a possession of a controlled substance felony charge.
