Pasco sheriff: Woman shoots, wounds masked home invader

PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A man who tried to invade and rob a Port Richey home was met with gunfire Wednesday night, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect, Anthony Capuano, 38, fled, but was badly wounded and wound up in the hospital.

The attempted robbery occurred around 11 p.m. Wednesday when Capuano knocked on the door of a residence on Alta Vista Lane.

Deputies say he was armed with a handgun and wearing a mask. He demanded to enter the home, but a woman at the door would not let him in.

Capuana shattered the window and began to crawl inside.

The woman, Heidi Christophell, 22, ran to a bedroom and grabbed her boyfriend's handgun. She fired multiple rounds at the Capuano who then fled in a white Chevy Impala, deputies said.

A short time later, he crashed into a home on El Camino Real Avenue. Capuano was hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound.

Deputies say he is a known gang member.

During their investigation at the Alta Vista home, the woman's boyfriend, Steven Brown, 21, returned home and was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

He was booked into the Land O' Lakes Detention Center.
