Plans moving forward for new outlet mall in Pasco County

Cypress Creek Town Center could open in 2015

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. - Right now, it's an empty field near Wesley Chapel Blvd and I-75.

"I'd like to see something happen with it, one that fits our vision for the county, but also would generate revenue and jobs and traffic, etc.," said Pasco Economic Development Council CEO John Hagan.

By the summer of 2015, Pasco County officials expect an giant outlet mall to be complete.

"The Cypress Creek Town Center property is arguably the most valuable, high traffic location in Pasco County," said Hagan.

The project known as Cypress Creek Town Center will be similar to the Premium Outlet Centers in Ellenton and Orlando developed by Simon Properties.

Saks 5th Avenue's Off 5th is the first big name retailer to announce plans to be a part of the project.

Coach, J. Crew, Nike, Banana Republic and Calvin Klein could be among others there too.

The outlet is less than three miles from the successful Shops at Wiregrass, but officials say they think the two will complement each other.

"I think it will become a great regional shopping destination for all of Tampa Bay," said Pasco director of planning and development Richard Gehring.

Big things are happening around Wesley Chapel, the outlet mall is just the latest.

"You are getting new employment centers with Raymond James coming to the area. New education facilities with Pasco-Hernando Community college which will become a four year college. You'll have a new hospital complex there," said Gehring.

Cypress Creek has seen its share of roadblocks because of environmental issues, but now construction could finally start in a matter of months.

Developers are making some amendments to their original plans and should be presenting those to the county for approval soon.
