Pasco County Sheriff deputies have arrested the grandson of a 74-year-old woman found dead in Pasco County Monday morning.
According to Sheriff Chris Nocco, Brandon Machetto, 18, has been charged with the murder of Sylvia Rosalie Schmitt.
Schmitt's body was found in the back seat of her Honda Odyssey minivan after police attempted a traffic stop.
Nocco said a neighbor witnessed the grandson suspiciously looking around outside the residence on Little Magens Loop around 5:30 a.m. A few minutes later, he witness Machetto drag a wrapped body out of the home and place it in the car. The neighbor told investigators he saw feet being dragged and immediately called 911.
When investigators arrived they could see a large amount of blood inside the residence and signs of a struggle.
A Silver Alert was issued.
A short time later, a deputy located Machetto driving the minivan and attempted a traffic stop. Machetto did not stop. Nacco said he drove back to the community where he eventually was stopped by a gate. Deputies took Machetto into custody and then discovered Schmitt's body.
Machetto is currently being questioned by investigators.
Sheriff Nacco said Machetto has a criminal history including domestic violence and burglaries.
