BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - A Hernando County jury has found Brittany Miles guilty of murder for running over and killing a man while fleeing from deputies.
Miles killed a motorcyclist, 66-year-old Henry McCain, minutes after she escaped from a Pasco County deputy during a traffic stop.
That deputy was hurt when Miles took off and dragged the deputy along-side her truck.
In December, she was sentenced to 15 years in a Pasco prison for that incident.
During court Thursday morning, Miles tried to apologize to the McCain family, saying it was an accident, but the prosecutor objected.
"I want to tell them I am sorry," said Miles.
When the verdict was red, Miles broke down and turned bright red in the face. Shortly after, she tried to mouth the words 'I'm sorry' to McCain's family.
"She has to pay," said Anita McCain, Henry's widow.
Miles was convicted of first-degree murder, which comes with a mandatory life sentence.
"That is tough I know but a life was taken," Anita added.
Trying to make amends for her daughter, Brittany's mother was spotted hugging Anita as she walked out of court.
"That was hard. I am a mother so I understand," Anita explained.
