Coast Guard flies 20 miles into Gulf for rescue

HUDSON, Fla. -

Coast Guard crew members rescued a 30-year-old man approximately 20 miles northwest of the Anclote River on Friday.

Jasper Troop was aboard the Mary D, a 26-foot fishing vessel when he began to experience severe stomach cramps and tingling in his extremities.

Another person aboard the boat contacted Coast Guard officials, who sent a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater.

The crew members hoisted Troop aboard the Jayhawk and flew him to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center in Hudson.
