New Port Richey police arrested a high-ranking gang member Friday in a fatal 2007 shooting.
Ramon Junior Perez-Velez, 27, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of James Andre Paulin.
According to the New Port Richey Police Department, Perez-Velez, once a top-ranking member of the local Latin Kings gang, organized members of his gang to retaliate against Paulin, who was part of Valentine Bloods, a rival gang.
Officers found Paulin dead Jan. 4, 2007, at 6632 Celeste Lane in New Port Richey, according to police. He had a gunshot wound in his back.
After the shooting, Perez-Velez, who went by the nicknames King Blade and Satelete, moved to Hernando County, police said.
The case reopened about a year ago with information received as far away as New York City, police said.
Officers arrested him about 1:40 p.m. at 1162 Concorde Ave. in Spring Hill on a count of second-degree murder.
